My wife needs a laptop to go to college ... even if only for things for school, no games, music, photos or movies.

Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)

- 12.1 "WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView (1280 x 800) with integrated touchscreen
- 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)!
- NVIDIA (R) GeForce (R) Go 6150
- HP Imprint Finish + Webcam + Microphone
- 802.11a/b/g/n (draft 802.11n) WLAN & Bluetooth
- 120 GB SATA hard drive running at 5,400 rpm
- Layer Super Multi 8X DVD + / -R/RW with Double-Support
- 4-cell and 6-cell lithium-ion batteries
- Norton Internet Security (TM) 2007 - 15 months subscription

I still think the price is high, even if it will work for them.

C140 Look at the Gateway convertible notebook that goes in both directions, like a laptop and a tablet. The basic specifications are on par with prices, what about the opening to less than large ones.

Another aspect is the new Dell XPS 1330th I saw one in action and offer very good grades. It is very light, thin, strong and very sexy. With 2 GB of specifications should be in the range of $ 1400 will be retained.
